Wish Kid Emily’s “Fantastic, wonderful” Wish Trip to San Diego

“Emily survived a tornado and cancer”

Emily has faced so much in her life already. A tornado ripped through her home town, leveling her home completely. With all the chaos and stress that ensued, Emily tried to downplay the severity of pain she had been feeling. When it worsened, her parents knew she needed to see a doctor. Test results came back positive for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow that compromises the immune system and makes one unable to fight off infection. Emily has endured chemotherapy, protein therapy radiation, and drug therapy.

The eldest of four siblings, Emily is a responsible and easy going role model. Kids Wish Network wanted to give her a chance to get away to another city so she and her family could take a break from the trials of her health issues.

Kids Wish Network flew Emily and her family from Illinois to San Diego, California, which prides itself on its spectacular coast and abundance of attractions and activities. There, the family enjoyed an activity packed four-night stay in the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina.

Dinner that evening was at the Island Restaurant, known for its juicy burgers and hot basket of homemade fries. After dinner, Emily used her love for solving puzzles when she participated in an escape room experience at House of Hints Escape Room.

The next day, Emily and her family were treated to the sights of San Diego from a sailboat, compliments of Aolani Catamarin Sailing. Kristen from Kristen Vincent Photography met the family before they embarked for a photo session to preserve precious memories of the day. A delicious lunch was served on the sailboat by A Moveable Feast Coronado.

A limousine from Q-Star Charters drove the family in style, starting with dinner at Caps Pizza & Bar to enjoy handcrafted pizza and Italian comfort foods. After dinner, arrangements were made to enjoy the Broadway smash hit musical “Newsies”. The following day, Emily was treated to a special docent tour of the Japanese Friendship Garden, which also arranged an amazing lunch prepared by Chef and owner Gregorio Serafini Pozzi from the CookBook Tavola Calda restaurant.

Emily said there were no words to describe what a wonderful experience her sun and fun-filled Wish trip was and what it meant for her family to be together, simply enjoying each other.
