REDONDO BEACH, Calif. Kids Wish Network partnered with World Cup champion, Chicago Red Stars player, and United States women’s national soccer team member, Christen Press, to reveal the wish the children’s charity was granting for a 6-year-old with adrenal hyperplasia.
Wish Kid Caitlyn loves to play soccer and dreams of becoming a professional soccer player when she grows up. Creating a dream of a lifetime, Kids Wish Network asked the world renowned, award winning soccer super star Christen Press to deliver the news to Caitlyn that Kids Wish Network is sending Caitlyn on a trip of a lifetime to LEGOLAND.
Christen took a break from training to meet Caitlyn at her soccer game to relay the special message to her. The celebrity athlete’s visit was a surprise to Caitlyn and her team. Christen shared her hard-earned wisdom about the strength of willpower and the unfailing hope it takes to make dreams come true with the admiring group of girls. Then she asked Caitlyn to step forward and announced that Kids Wish Network was making Caitlyn’s dream to go to LEGOLAND come true. Christen posed for photos and even autographed Caitlyn’s soccer ball for her.
“I had a great time meeting Caitlyn and her team [through Kids Wish Network]. I am grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and encourage young girls to follow their dreams,” said Christen Press.
Wish Kid Caitlyn’s health issues began before she was even born. Tests confirmed that Caitlyn had congenital adrenal hyperplasia, a collection of genetic conditions that limit the adrenal glands’ ability to make cortisol. Insufficient levels of cortisol can cause Caitlin to go into adrenal crisis, which is why Caitlyn takes two cortisone medications daily. Despite her life-threatening illnesses, Caitlyn is an outgoing little girl whose goal is to become a professional soccer player.
“We strive to deliver a message of hope to all of our Wish Kids that with hard work and a determined spirit, anything is possible. KWN is so grateful to Guardian Angels like Christen Press that help us encourage this notion,” said Anna Lanzatella, Executive Director of Kids Wish Network.
Christen was named the Women’s Professional Soccer League’s Rookie of the Year in 2011 and went on to become the top scorer in the Damallsvenskan, Sweden’s highest division of women’s soccer as well as the first American to receive the Golden Boot award. In 2015, she represented the United States in their victory at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
On behalf of Caitlyn and her family, Kids Wish Network would like to thank Christen Press and EAG Sports Management for their participation in Caitlyn’s wish reveal.
