Wish Kid Bubba and His Incredible Texas Adventure

Wish Kid Bubba and His Incredible Texas AdventureDuring a 4th of July celebration, James, or Bubba as he prefers, wasn’t watching fireworks, playing with sparklers, or eating popsicles like most kids his age. He started complaining about not feeling well, and when the symptoms worsened, Bubba was taken to the ER where he was admitted when diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He was hospitalized for three days and his parents got a crash course on how best to help Bubba with his condition and the insulin shots he must take four to five times a day.

Bubba loves to hunt, fish, and be outdoors. He is an outgoing kid who will talk to anyone. He’s described as energetic and a friend to all.

Kids Wish Network wanted to give Bubba some fun away from his hometown, where he could still participate in outdoor activities and try some things he had never experienced.

We flew Bubba and his family from Oklahoma to Houston, Texas, where they stayed as guests of the luxurious JW Marriott Houston Downtown, a good “home base”. The family took the easy drive to Galveston Island and Stewart Beach. This was the first time Bubba had ever seen a beach. From there, they headed to Schlitterbahn Water Park for more fun in the sun.

Some of the activities Bubba and his family participated in were riding a surrey bike offered by Island Bicycle and playing arcades and bowling at Putt Putt Fun House. Bubba’s favorite part of the wish was the inshore fishing trip with Galveston Fishing Charter Company. He wished he could have stayed on the boat all day long!

Wish Kid Bubba with astronaut Ken CameronAnother highlight of his wish was visiting the Space Center Houston where he met and had lunch with Astronaut Ken Cameron. Bubba will always cherish Mr. Cameron’s autographed picture and the experience of going inside an authentic space shuttle.

On top of the wonderful meal it provided, the staff at Joe’s Crab Shack gave Bubba a backpack filled with Star War toys. McAlister Deli made deli sandwiches for one day’s lunch and gave Bubba a kite to fly on Stewart Beach. The Capital Grille served Bubba a “big ole steak” but he really enjoyed the big piece of cheesecake with ice cream he had for dessert.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following sponsors for helping make Alexander’s wish come true:
