“He faces every challenge set in his path with a courageous smile and determination”
Jeremy is 18 years old, and for the last 15 years, he has been receiving treatment at Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts for bone disease. Numerous extended inpatient hospitalizations throughout his childhood, countless surgeries, and several post-operation setbacks in his treatment plans could have severely hardened Jeremy’s outlook on life, but his positivity, bravery, and contagious laughter have never faltered. His steadfast nature is inspiring to all who come into contact with him.
Starting at the tender age of two, “Jeremy and his family became a part of our family here at SHC. He has been here longer than most staff!” remarked his nominating Child Life Specialist, Samantha West. His “hospital family”deeply admires Jeremy for facing every challenge set in his path with a courageous smile and determination. They are lucky enough to have Jeremy around to be “a hero to all of the other kids at Shriners as well,” she continued. He is always the first to introduce himself to new kids when they arrive at the hospital and openly shares his own story to put the younger ones at ease in their new environment. Jeremy gently encourages them to go out and play in the pediatric playroom and has been known to treat everyone in the lobby to his musical talents on the guitar.
Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) Administrator, Lee Kirk, is who gave Jeremy his Hero award. He believes “Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month program contributes in furthering the SHC mission through the support and recognition of children” who have experienced life altering medical situations. “A key part of the SHC vision is to transform lives,” and KWN does just that by acknowledging that “SHC kids are heroes.”
Kids Wish Network and Shriners Hospitals for Children, Springfield would like to honor Jeremy’s commendable bravery and strength by recognizing him as a Hero of the Month. Keep up the good work Jeremy!
