TUCSON, AZ (Aug. 9, 2015): It was a dream come true for 16-year-old A’hyzia Johnson to meet Bravo reality television star and renowned hair stylist Tabatha Coffey. The Australian-born celebrity spent a recent afternoon overseeing a chic cut and blow out for A’hyzia. Their appointment at trendy Arrojo Salon was followed by a limo ride into the Big Apple for lunch reservations at Red Cat Restaurant, a New York favorite.
Thanks to Tabatha, A’hyzia’s special day in New York City is one she won’t soon forget.
A’hyzia was diagnosed with MS or multiple sclerosis back in 2012 and has spent the last three years managing her illness. MS is a chronic neurological disorder that affects A’hyzia’s central nervous system and allows her immune system to attack the protective sheath that encases her nerves. The damage disrupts communication between A’hyzia’s brain and the rest of her body. This caused A’hyzia to be hospitalized for almost four months after suffering stroke-like symptoms that led to her losing some functionality in both sides of her body.
After all that A’hyzia has gone through, she still finds a way to maintain a positive attitude, and Kids Wish Network was overjoyed to be able to give her another reason to keep smiling.
A’hyzia and her family jetted off on a posh New York vacation in the heart of the city. They visited local landmarks such as the 9/11 Tribute Center and took a VIP tour of the Statue of Liberty. A’hyzia enjoyed an authentic New York pizza pie in Times Square and a guided walk through Central Park. She even had her own personal shopper escort and outfit her at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Most special to A’hyzia was the full day spent with Tabatha. Tabatha’s ability to “keep it real” while “laughing and joking like she was just a regular person was the most amazing experience,” recalls A’hyzia.
“When I found out A’hyzia wanted to meet me, I was honored,” said Tabatha Coffey. “When I met her, I was blown away by her strength and beauty. I had an incredible day with A’hyzia in New York and was incredibly humbled to be a part of the good work Kids Wish Network does for kids like A’hyzia.”.
Currently, A’hyzia continues to manage her life-long illness at home in Arizona with medications that doctors hope will slow down the disease’s progression.
On behalf of A’hyzia and her family, Kids Wish Network would like to thank Tabatha Coffey, Arrojo Salon, US Limo Service, Red Cat Restaurant, Hard Rock Café, Ellen’s Stardust Diner, John’s Pizza Times Square, Roosevelt Hotel, Madame Tussauds New York, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Tribute Center, Saks Fifth Avenue, Andie Sleeman, and The Park Restaurant for helping make A’hyzia’s dream trip a reality.
