“A pianist at heart, she loved seeing the orchestra perform”
At age 12, Madeline was experiencing chronic stomach pain, digestive problems, failure to thrive and was underweight. Madeline’s doctors discovered that her kidneys were too small and had lost 1/3 of their total function. She was diagnosed with Vesicoureteral reflux and Celiac disease.
Veiscoureteral reflux is the abnormal flow of urine from the bladder back up the tubes that carry it to the kidneys. It allows any bacteria present in the urine to reach the kidneys, causing scarring or possible kidney infection, which could spread to the blood and lead to severe illness. In addition, Celiac disease requires Madeline to maintain a gluten-free diet. At the age of 16, Madeline had surgery to place her tubes where they should have been all along.
Kids Wish Network wanted to give Madeline a relaxing and fun vacation away from the everyday reminders of her life-threatening condition. Granting her dream wish, KWN sent Madeline to Disney World as well as Universal and Islands of Adventure. Visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was an amazing experience for Madeline, an avid fan of wands, spells, and magical mayhem. She was blown away and tried all of the rides.
Madeline is a pianist and her passion prompted KWN to secure her tickets for Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. She enjoyed seats right next to the orchestra for the show. Planning on potentially pursing music as a career path, Madeline loved seeing the talented musicians in action.
