“He is starting to get the twinkle back in his eyes”
It was unexpected when 9-year-old Freddy was rushed to Beaumont Children’s Hospital in Michigan. A blood clot had formed in Freddy’s body and traveled to his brain, causing him to have a severe stroke. Freddy suffered a lot of pain.
Freddy had to undergo a thrombectomy, a surgery to remove the blood clots from his brain. He is currently going through occupational and physical therapy to regain movement in his left side.
A boy of few words, Freddy is shy, but a very helpful and sweet kid. Freddy’s parents couldn’t be prouder of the incredible strength and bravery that he has displayed. “Somehow, he got us through this instead of vice versa,” recalled his mom, Delena.
Freddy’s recovery has been lengthy and is ongoing, but “he has started to get the twinkle back in his eyes,” she continued. It was reaffirming for Freddy to be recognized by Kids Wish Network for the Hero of the Month award. This award served as a “bear hug and a huge pat on the back” for Freddy, doing wonders for his self-esteem. As of now, Freddy is doing a remarkable job recuperating and is in good spirits.
Kids Wish Network is proud to recognize Freddy as both our and Beaumont Children’s Hospital’s Hero of the Month! Congratulations Freddy!
