“He’s been practicing his slide skills”
Diagnosed at birth with Down syndrome, doctors also immediately discovered that Christopher had a hole in his heart and reflux. After two years, the hole closed on its own without surgical intervention, but Christopher still faced challenges. In addition to Down syndrome, he has severe asthma, requiring multiple daily treatments. Currently, Christopher attends physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. He is a happy boy who loves to dance and watch Sesame Street.
With the help of Home Depot, Kids Wish Network was able to grant Christopher’s wish for a brand new backyard playground. A team of 15 volunteers from Home Depot arrived at Christopher’s home to lay down mulch and install the swings, slide, and monkey bars on his play set. Once it was built, they surprised Christopher by revealing his shiny new toy. He was overjoyed, and everyone celebrated with him over a generous spread provided by BreWingZ, while taking turns exploring the playground. The excitement continued as a special guest arrived to help Christopher break in his playground. It was none other than Christopher’s favorite furry friend Elmo!
At first, Christopher approached the playground with caution, taking it all in with his quiet appraisal. His curiosity soon got the best of him though, and he had to give it a try. It was well worth it because now he is having the time of his life working on his slide skills and climbing the different style steps. “Instead of actual steps, it has bars. This is wonderful because it gives Christopher a new challenge in physical therapy,” said his mom Lisa.
Kid’s Wish Network would like to thank the following Guardian Angel sponsors for their participation in Christopher’s wish:
