“Thomas had two incidents of a collapsed lung only a month apart”
Thomas is a personable and respectful 16-year-old who recently endured two extremely painful medical issues. The teen was admitted to Swedish Medical Center for a spontaneous pneumothorax, collapsed lung, which required hospitalization in the PICU for multiple days. Doctors placed a chest tube to help Thomas breath while recovering.
But only a month later, Thomas suffered another incident of spontaneous pneumothorax. This time, after doctors placed another chest tube, Thomas needed a VATS surgery to prevent the incident from happening again. He stayed in the PICU for his recovery.
His nominating Child Life Specialist described the procedures as “very painful” and said “Thomas was very compliant and patient in the healing process.”
Kids Wish Network is certainly proud to honor Thomas as a Hero of the Month along with Swedish Medical Center!
