“Rachael’s glucose levels were the furthest thing from her mind”
At age seven, Rachael started suffering from night terrors and was always thirsty. After checking her blood glucose, Rachael’s doctor diagnosed her with type 1 diabetes. She was admitted to the hospital as doctors worked tirelessly for four days to regulate her spiked blood sugar levels. Currently, Rachael needs to check her levels up to 30 times every day and requires at least four shots of insulin. Sometimes, her blood sugar drops so dangerously low that she’s at a high risk for seizures. Rachael also suffers from severe acid reflux and has major food allergies to milk, eggs, dairy, and soy.
Kids Wish Network decided to give Rachael a reprieve from the harsh realities of her life-threatening illness and send her on an unforgettable vacation to Orlando. Rachael enjoyed the heart pumping thrill rides and adrenaline boosting attractions at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. She watched her favorite cartoons and children’s storybook characters come to life while visiting the amusement parks of her dreams.
Rachel’s itinerary also included trips to The Orlando Eye, Sea Life Aquarium, and Madame Tussauds. From the breathtaking views afforded by the Orlando Eye observation wheel to striking a pose alongside Hollywood’s elite at Madame Tussauds, every activity surpassed Rachael’s wildest expectations. She then dined at the legendary Tony Roma’s and was treated to the bold flavors of Emeril’s Tchoup Chop. Rachael’s magical wish trip was filled with memories that she will always treasure. “It was the trip of a lifetime,” said Rachael’s mom.
