“Alex has been so resilient and brave”
Alexandra, referred to as Alex, was admitted to Kaiser Permanente for an infection on her spinal cord that affected her ability to walk. While hospitalized, the 12-year-old underwent several tests and procedures where she needed to remain completely still for more than an hour at a time. Although she was scared and anxious about her procedures, she was open and willing to try different coping techniques to make things easier.
“Alexandra has an incredible attitude towards her care and treatment,” writes her nominating Child Life Specialist. “She is positive and cheerful, no matter how she is feeling. In my 15 years of experience, that is pretty rare for a pre-teen girl. Throughout this admission, she has always been kind, polite, and does whatever we ask of her with a smile and tries her best!”
After treatment, Alex successfully was able to move her legs again but will have long-term physical therapy needs and possible inpatient rehab.
Kids Wish Network is proud to recognize Alex for her hardworking and positive spirit!
“I am extremely grateful for being nominated for the award,” says Alex. “I am very happy and hope to share this experience with others!”
“We are so grateful for the nomination and recognition given to Alex,” adds her mom. “She’s been so resilient and brave and we’re so proud of her. Although it was such a stressful and daunting time, her Child Life Team and this award definitely made the stay easier!”
