“The kids got everything they wanted”
Wish Kids Jermyriya, Jerziyah and Jaylen were all diagnosed shortly after birth with sickle cell anemia, an inherited disorder that causes the red blood cells to become crescent shaped. The disease prevents blood from flowing easily throughout the body and can cause severe life-threatening complications.
All three siblings suffer from chronic pain and frequent viral infections, and each take multiple daily medications. The kids have had various complications over the years.
Jermyriya, the eldest of the three, occasionally receives blood transfusions to help elevate her red blood cell count. Jerziyah, the middle sibling, once had symptoms so severe that she couldn’t walk for three months. Her bones were starved for oxygen but with treatment, Jerziyah was eventually able to walk again. Jaylen, the youngest one, has already seen what the future can hold for him in dealing with his life-threatening illness and is worried about what other complications he’ll face.
Despite all their struggles, the siblings can lean on one another for support and also turn to singing as an outlet. For their wishes, they all dreamed of going on an ultimate shopping spree to buy “anything they want!”
Kids Wish Network arranged for a once-in-a-lifetime event that was all about the kids. Each child was treated to stories picked especially for them where they could shop to their hearts content. The kids weren’t even able to finish in one day and will have to return another time.
“All the kids had a wonderful time,” recalls their mom. “They got new clothes, accessories, hats, Build-A-Bears, new tablets; everything they wanted.”
