“Beau had to go through a lot to get better”
While on a family vacation, Beau fell ill with stomach flu-like symptoms. After five days, the family traveled home and Beau was taken immediately to the doctor. He was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and needed surgery quickly; doctors also had to place a drain to dispose of the internal fluids released by the rupture.
Beau couldn’t eat, was extremely nauseous, suffered a lot of pain and couldn’t move very easily. The 11-year-old required multiple medications to relieve his symptoms and fight the infection caused by the rupture.
Despite these painful and uncomfortable struggles, Beau was kind and happy to see anyone who came to visit him. He was very motivated to get better and took walks every hour as requested by his nurses.
“Beau had to go through a lot to get better,” says his nominating nurse from Mercy Medical Center. “He really deserves this award.”
KWN is honored to recognized Beau as a Hero of the Month!
