After breaking his left arm in football practice, Michael could have sustained a game-ending injury. As his high school’s senior left-handed pitcher, the team was counting on him to perform by the beginning of the season. His doctor at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Greenville created a treatment plan just for the athlete in hopes of getting him better in time for baseball.
With a lot of physical therapy, hard work, a positive attitude, and a carefully followed treatment plan, Michael healed up in time for his season.
“Michael followed every exercise and every step in his care plan with no complaints,” said his nominating therapist. “He is so motivated to do all that he can to be ready for baseball training as soon as the doctor allows.”
For a teenager, following doctors’ orders is sometimes hard; especially when you have to sit on the sidelines during your senior year. Michael showed a heroic spirit through his dedication to painful and time-consuming therapies, and by completely following his treatment plan.
“As a varsity athlete, Michael was devastated by the broken bone in his pitching arm,” recalls him mom. “The staff at Shriners Hospital truly knew how to motivate Mikey; when his therapist told him she recommended him for the Hero of the Month it boosted his determination to work even harder. Thank you for recognizing our son and providing such a wonderful program; it really does mean a lot, even to the “big kids.””
Kids Wish Network is so proud to honor Michael for his hard work and unrelenting determination! We know he’s going to have a great baseball season!
