Nationwide Children’s Hospital
Omar has faced medical struggles since birth. The 5-year-old suffers from Hirschsprung’s disease, a congenital condition that affects the large intestine. In June 2014, Omar was admitted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio to undergo multiple invasive procedures. He was discharged home, which is out of state, after a week but needed to return in September for another procedure.
“Each admission brought different procedures, need for pain medications and several days of recovery that included possible pain and discomfort,” explains Omar’s nominating Child Life Specialist. “Throughout it all, Omar worked hard at recovery through taking walks and spending time outside of his room all while continuing to spread his fun loving spirit throughout the unit.”
“Despite all the obstacles he has experienced, Omar maintained a positive and willing attitude and has been a role model for other children, as well as those of us with much more life experience, with his upbeat outlook.”
Along with his nominator and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, KWN is honored to recognize Omar as a Hero of the Month!
