Jacari suffers from a severe heart defect
Wish Kid Jacari is an intelligent 11-year-old who does his best to enjoy life to the fullest. Sometimes for Jacari though, that is easier said than done. Jacari suffers from a life-threatening illness and has undergone four major surgeries in his short life.
Jacari was diagnosed at an infant with his conditions; he suffers from a major heart defect called double outlet right ventricle, or DOVR, and a heart murmur. In a normal heart, the pulmonary artery that carries blood to the lungs to receive oxygen arises from the right ventricle. And the aorta, which carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the body, arises from the left ventricle.
In Jacari’s heart, however, both of the heart’s great arteries arise from the right ventricle causing serious complications and preventing the heart from working correctly. Jacari suffered through his first heart surgery at just 6 months old. Thankfully, the surgery was successful but Jacari is still closely monitored for any sign of distress.
Jacari also was born without the tibia bone in one of his legs. As a result, Jacari had his leg amputated a few years ago and will face another leg surgery in just two years to correct complications.
Despite Jacari’s medical issues, he maintains a positive attitude and likes to make friends with everyone he meets. Jacari enjoys playing video games, reading, and watching basketball. He also wants to become a robot, just like the famous Transformers because “robots can do anything.” KWN is happy to grant Jacari’s wish to meet some “real” Transformer robots at Universal Studios in Florida. Come on Jacari, it’s time to do the Robot dance!
