“Taiah had a wonderful time!”
When Taiah was 4 years old, her mom noticed she was having seizure-like symptoms in her sleep. Immediately, the young girl was rushed to the hospital but tests didn’t garner any results. Two years later, Taiah suffered another similar episode, but again, tests didn’t reveal anything suspicious.
Then, in 2008, Taiah had a seizure while awake, and doctors were finally able to diagnosis her with epilepsy and bilateral perisylvian polymicrogyria, a rare neurological disorder that can result in seizures. For the next year, Taiah underwent several tests including MRI’s and EEG’s and was prescribed medication to help control her seizures. Taiah’s seizures seem to coincide with her growth spurts, so her medication is increased in time with these.
Since her diagnosis, Taiah has overcome many obstacles related to her life-threatening conditions regarding her short-term memory loss and dexterity. She takes medications to control her seizures and has an EEG every six months.
Taiah’s dream was to visit Disneyland and Universal Studios so she was so excited to start her experience. She had a blast visiting the parks, dining at restaurants that went above-and-beyond to make her feel special, and meeting some of her favorite characters.
“Universal Studios was definitely Taiah’s favorite part,” says her mom. “She loved going on the Transformers, Men in Black and The Simpson’s ride. Taiah had a wonderful time.”
When Taiah visited Guardian Angel sponsor Chili’s Grill & Bar, the serves even dressed in the uniforms of Taiah’s favorite NFL team. Another, Bahama Breeze, gave her and her brother t-shirts.
Overall, the experience will give Taiah and her family memories for a lifetime.
