Layla hook’s the Captain in Disney

Layla was so excited to meet Captain Hook

When Layla was just 12 months old, her mom noticed she was constantly tired, kept losing weight and becoming very fussy. After weeks of attempted treatment and a very scary emergency room visit, Layla was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Her physical development was also a concern; at 17 months, Layla weighed only 15 pounds.

Layla was kept in the hospital for a week while her parents were taught how to care for a child with diabetes. For the first six months, Layla received insulin shots to treat her condition, but her glucose was hard to regulate. Layla now utilizes a 24-hour insulin pump to deliver her life-saving medication as soon as she needs it.

Even Layla’s playtime needs to be monitored carefully. If the 3-year-old is overactive or spends too much time in the heat, her blood sugar usually drops. Despite her dangerous condition, Layla is a sweet and loving child who loves everything Disney, especially Captain Hook. And the little girl couldn’t believe her eyes when she got to meet him on her wish trip!

Layla loved visiting the Disney theme parks, meeting characters, going on rides, and being treated extra special at all the Wish Sponsors. Her hotel had toys waiting in the room before her arrival and all the restaurants went above and beyond.

“Layla was so excited to meet Captain Hook,” writes her mom Amie. “She had a fabulous time and didn’t want to come home.”

Layla loved all her sponsors so much! Thank you for going above and beyond for Layla!
