The trip was unforgettable for Joe
In the spring of 2013, Joe started to experience severe abdominal pain that increased throughout the summer. In October, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel disease that leads to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea and malnutrition. The painful and debilitating disease resulted in life-threatening complications for Joe, keeping him in the hospital for 10 days.
Joe takes multiple medications to help treat and alleviate the symptoms of his Crohn’s. Though the medications seem to be working, Joe’s body suffers from the side effects. He also has outpatient treatments every four weeks to help decrease the inflammation in his bowels.
Joe’s condition also barred him from playing contact sports, like his favorite, hockey, so he became a dedicated golfer. One thing that was always at the top of his list was private lessons so we granted his wish and got him some quality time with legendary golf coach Hank Haney.
Joe flew to Arizona for his wish where he met Hank Haney for breakfast, got tips on his swing at the driving range and then was invited to play a round of golf at Talking Stick Golf Course.
“Joe has a really nice swing and great demeanor on the golf course,” said Haney. “If he keeps working hard on his game, he can be a great player.”
Haney is best known for leading pros Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara to multiple titles, has four golf schools in Texas, and is credited as one of the best instructors in the sport.
“The trip was an unforgettable experience for Joe,” adds his mother Becky Cherrin. “We really thank Mr. Haney and Kids Wish Network for making his dream come true.”
Joe’s high school golf season starts in the spring and he is excited to showcase his new skills.
