Alex Dines with Mickey Mouse

Alex Baron

“Alex made wonderful memories”

In September 2013, Alexander came down with an unusual rash on his elbows and started acting strangely. He began experiencing pain in his hips and couldn’t sit up or climb the steps. A visit to his doctor yielded no results until blood work was done for autoimmune disorders. Alexander was finally diagnosed two months later with juvenile dermatomyositis, an inflammatory myopathy where the body’s immune system attacks blood vessels throughout the body causing muscle weakness and wide-spread inflammation and pain.

Alexander, commonly referred as Alex, receives chemotherapy treatments once a week and takes daily steroid medications. He has good days and bad days with his illness. His compromised immune system causes him to easily get sick and his medication has serious and life-long side effects.

Despite his life-threatening condition, Alex loves to be active and play with his siblings. He tries to be a normal 4-year-old, but he is in pain most of the time. Alex loves swimming and all the Disney characters, especially Buzz Lightyear and Woody from “Toy Story” so we knew a Wish trip to Disney World was perfect for Alex.

Alex and his family had a fantastic time at the Florida Theme parks where they met characters, dined at themed-restaurants and enjoyed their luxury accommodations.

“Thank you so much for the wonderful time and the wonderful memories,” recalls Alex’s mom. “Alex thoroughly enjoyed himself and loved Disney and Universal Studios. Everyone was so incredibly sweet and generous to help grant his wish.”

On behalf of Alex and his family, we’d like to thank all the great Guardian Angel sponsors that helped make his dream come true:

  • Enterprise Rent-A-Car
