“Alyce loved meeting the Disney characters”
Alyce is the definition of a trooper. Suffering since birth of her life-threatening condition, Alyce manages to stay happy almost all the time. She is outgoing, eager and always willing to learn.
When Alyce was born, she wasn’t breathing and was declared a baby in distress. She was then diagnosed with cerebral palsy and spent her first three weeks of life in the hospital. Alyce began therapy treatment for her condition at only 3 months old and had her first surgery at the age of 2.
Cerebral palsy is a general term for a group of permanent, movement disorders that cause physical disability resulting from damage to the motor control centers of the developing brain. Alyce has suffered through many surgeries to help correct her legs, hips, spine and muscles affected by cerebral palsy. She’s had over 11 surgeries and uses an implanted baclofen pump to deliver medication that helps control the muscles in her back.
Alyce has been doing very well since the insertion of her pump and has not had a surgery since 2012. Despite being confined to a wheelchair for mobility, she enjoys riding the Ferris wheel and watching Disney movies.
For her wish, Alyce was sent on an all-inclusive trip to sunny Florida for a fun experience at the Florida theme parks. She loved meeting the characters at Disney World and Universal Studios and enjoying the exciting shows.
