Kids Wish Network grants Disney wish for California child suffering from Cystic Fibrosis

allissa disney wish kidADELANTO, Cali.: Allissa Gabriel is always relieved when she’s finished with a surgery, and her last discharge from the hospital came in the nick of time. The 10-year-old Adelanto, CA, child was released just in time for her wish to Disney World granted by children’s charity Kids Wish Network. The organization is dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children having experienced life-altering situations.

Allissa was born premature and spent her first weeks of life in the neonatal intensive care unit. As a baby, she suffered from gastrointestinal (GI) complications so severe a feeding tube had to be inserted when she was only 6 months old. When she was 2, the feeding tube was removed and the fragile child was then diagnosed in 2004 with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disorder that affects the lungs, pancreases, liver and intestines.

As a result, Allissa suffers from chronic sinus problems, is pancreatic insufficient and has other GI issues. The bright and bubbly child has undergone 11 surgeries in her short life that keep her in the hospital anywhere from one to six weeks each time. Her most recent surgery was to replace her IV port.

Allissa was released just days before her amazing wish to Walt Disney World. Kids Wish Network granted the all-inclusive wish trip to Orlando, FL, where Allissa and her family enjoyed amazing accommodations at the Sheraton Vistana Resort, dined at great restaurants and visited the magical Disney parks.

Allissa loved meeting Mickey Mouse, riding roller coasters, touring the Animal Kingdom and dining at Pirates Dinner Adventure. Her favorite part was visiting the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where she got a princess makeover.

“Getting to go to Disney World made my surgery and the hospital stay not seem so bad,” writes Allissa. “Thank you for granting my wish! I hope every special kid like me gets to be this happy and have a wish granted.”

Kids Wish Network and the Gabriel family would like to thank all the generous sponsors that helped grant Allissa’s wish: Sheraton Vistana Resort, Compassion Partners Programs, Pirates Dinner Adventure, Sweet Tomatoes, Adobe Guila’s, WonderWorks and Thrifty/Dollar Rent A Car.

Allissa is currently doing well and continues to battle against her illness. You can follow Allissa’s journey on her KWN page and leave her encouraging messages as she continues to battle against her life-threatening disease.
