MESA, Ariz.: Brinley Davidson is quite the exception; she is one of only 61 cases of tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS) diagnosed worldwide to date. And at only 5 years old, she already administers her own daily injections, and manages it with a smile on her face. Recently, she’s had more reason to smile as her dream to visit the Disney princesses came true thanks to Kids Wish Network, a Florida-based charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children having experience life-altering situations.
Brinley, of Mesa, AZ, first began having health issues at age six months. She would have episodes of fevers ranging from 102-105 degrees that could last weeks or even months, and she suffered from bouts of vomiting, aches and pains, swelling and burning rashes. After three years of doctors and hospitals, Brinley was finally diagnosed with TRAPS and hyperimmunoglobulin-D syndrome (HIDS). Both conditions are extremely rare genetic disorders that attack the immune system; to date only 61 cases of TRAPS has been diagnosed worldwide and only 200 cases of HIDS.
The fun-loving little girl suffers from recurrent episodes of high fevers accompanied by abdominal and muscle pain, spreading skin rashes, joint paint, and swelling around the eyes. These attacks can be caused by excitement or stress and typically last three weeks, but can range from a few days to a few months. To keep the illness at bay, Brinley bravely gives herself daily injections.
And even though she had to continue her daily treatments, Brinley didn’t let that stop her from enjoying her wish trip granted by Kids Wish Network. Brinley and her family traveled on their all-expense paid wish to Disney World where Brinely got to meet her favorite Disney princesses. The family had an amazing time as Brinley rode the spinning teacups, acted in a play with Princess Belle and got to meet more princesses like Aurora, Snow White and Merida, the princess from Disney’s “Brave”.
“I loved meeting Princess Aurora!” Brinley shouts. “And riding the spinning teacups!”
Brinley’s mom Christy Davidson adds, “We cannot thank Kids Wish Network enough. It was all unbelievable. The wish is all she’s been talking about.”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the many generous sponsors who helped grant Brinley’s wish: Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld, Compassion Partners Programs, Thrifty/Dollar Rent A Car, Pirates Dinner Adventure, Café TuTu Tango, Chili’s Bar and Grille and Wonderworks.
