“I’ve been inspired to draw again!”
In 2012, Adam visited his doctor after discovering a lump on the underside of his arm; physicians thought it was the result of an infection. The lump was surgically removed and biopsied in early 2013. The test results were devastating; the lump was cancerous, and Adam was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma.
A scan showed the disease had already reached both of Adam’s lungs and had the potential to spread to other major organs. Adam immediately began immunotherapy treatment, a dangerous dose of chemotherapy and radiation used to suppress the immune system and prevent cancer cells from growing.
Adam spent almost 20 total days in the hospital for the first round of immunotherapy, suffering through up to eight treatments per day. After completing his first round of treatment, the lump in Adam’s arm didn’t change, but parts of the melanoma in his lungs did shrink.
The family-oriented and loving teen made the painful decision to undergo a second round of excruciating treatment but unfortunately the cancer didn’t respond and has progressed. Adam had targeted radiation on his temple and immunotherapy treatment in summer 2014.
As Adam’s dream is to become an professional animator, Kids Wish Network was excited to plan his wish for a behind-the-scenes tour of Disney Animation Studios in California. Adam and his family got the VIP treatment in all of Hollywood on his inspirational wish trip.
We’d like to thank all the amazing sponsors that made this wish possible: Disney Animation Studios, Hollywood Wax Museum, Granville Café, House of Blues, Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood, Exclusive Sedan Service, Warner Brothers VIP Tour, Le Montrose Suite Hotel, and Burbank Medical.
“Thank you all so much,” says Adam. “I’ve been inspired to draw again.”
Adam is in good spirits and hopes to undergo a newly approved treatment in the near future. He is also planning on beginning a 3rd round of immunotherapy treatment soon.
