“Kolton started having seizures at only 5 weeks old”
When little Kolton was only 5 weeks old, he began having seizures. Doctors ran every test imaginable but couldn’t diagnosis him with anything definite. Over a year and a half later, Kolton was finally diagnosed with a carotene deficiency, which is a lack of vitamin A, an essential nutrient in the body. Even with treatment, Kolton was showing signs of developmental delays and was failing to thrive.
Kolton was placed on a feeding tube in attempt to give him the nutrients his body wasn’t getting. Doctors conducted a muscle biopsy, and Kolton was officially diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, a group of disorders caused by faulty mitochondria, the part of the cell responsible for producing energy. Kolton was initially feeding tube dependent, but worked hard to learn to eat by mouth again.
The 7-year-old loves the Disney Channel and watching cartoons with his big brother, so he was more than excited to visit the real Disney World with his whole family. Kids Wish Network sent Kolton to Florida for some fun-filled days under the sun. He had a great time visiting the parks and experiencing all the area has to offer.
On behalf of Kolton and his family, KWN would like to thank all of the generous sponsors that helped grant his wish: WonderWorks, Compassion Partners Program, Pirates Dinner Adventure, House of Blues, Rainforest Café, and T-REX Café.
