Brendan has faced more adversity in his short 3 years of life than most face in an entire lifetime. Brendan was diagnosed with congenital coronary atresia when he was only 3 months old. This severe, congenital heart disease forced doctors to perform a partial bypass surgery on Brendan at the tender age of 4 months. As a result of the bypass, Brendan had masses of scar tissue form around his heart, complicating his diagnosis further.
Brendan suffered from multiple heart attacks in a short period, and almost didn’t make it through, but doctors were able to revive the tiny child. Doctors informed Brendan’s mother that the only thing that could save Brendan was a heart transplant, but there were no guarantees he would survive the surgery.
Only days after being placed on the transplant list, Brendan underwent a 12-hour surgery for a new heart. The heart took, and Brendan slowly began to recover. He has, however, recently developed pulmonary hypertension, a condition marked by abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs, which he will continue to battle.
Despite all he’s been through, Brendan is a happy child who loves to make others laugh and watch anything with Mickey Mouse. We couldn’t wait to send Brendan to meet the mascot in person when he and his family traveled to Disneyland.
The family had a fantastic time exploring the parks while staying at the Embassy Suites Anaheim- South, dining at great local restaurants and visiting SeaWorld.
