Florida – As a part of its commitment of infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children having experienced life-altering situations, Kids Wish Network sent 7 year-old Abigail, who suffers from intractable epilepsy, on a all expenses paid vacation to Key West. During their vacation, Abigail and her family were treated to several complimentary adventures including snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, a tour of the coral reef, and a sunset cruise.
“There is no joy like that of a child who has just had their fondest wish granted,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Anna Lanzatella. “It is our honor and privilege to be able to make these special dreams come true.”
In 2010, Abigail was diagnosed with intractable epilepsy. She suffers from seizures daily, even while sleeping. Due to her illnesses she has loss of vision in her left eye and has lost her ability to read. Abigail will soon undergo brain surgery to remove sections of her brain that are causing the seizures. Abigail’s family relies on her service dog, Cosmo to alert them when a seizure is about to occur.
“I loved everything. I really enjoyed swimming with the dolphins and seeing the coral reef, it was a tropical paradise” said Abigail. “The hotel was a palace, I felt like I was living like a princess.”
In Key West, Abigail also enjoyed the shipwreck museum, the beach and snorkeling. “This was the first time that I cried happy tears for my kids, thank you to Kids Wish Network and everyone who made this possible” said Katherine, Abigail’s mom.
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for making Abigail’s Key West vacation so memorable: Ocean Reef Club, Island Dolphin Care, Theater of the Sea, Bentley’s, Old Town Trolley Tour, Turtle Kraals, Fury Water Adventures Key West, Sundiver Snorkel Tours and The Galley Restaurant.
