“Amber maintained a positive outlook on life, despite her diagnosis of leukemia”
In December of 2012, Amber started experiencing joint pain that wasn’t eased by the usual methods. Her parents were rightfully worried and took Amber to the emergency room where doctors discovered her blood counts were low. After more tests and blood work, Amber was diagnosed with leukemia, a cancer of the body’s blood-forming tissues that causes the body’s bone marrow to produce abnormal white blood cells.
The next day, Amber underwent a spinal tap and bone marrow test to diagnose the severity of her cancer. The teen was immediately started on chemotherapy, and suffered many complications as a result. Amber has battled through countless rounds of the treatment, a stomach infection so severe it required emergency surgery, multiple blood clots and kidney failure. The passionate young teen visits a physical therapist weekly and can walk with the assistance of a cane.
Despite her daily battle, Amber has maintained a positive outlook on life and was excited to get her wish to visit Disneyland in California with her family. Kids Wish Network sent Amber on an all-expense paid wish trip to the “most magical place on Earth” where she stayed at the beautiful Fairfield Inn Anaheim Hotel, dined at fantastic restaurants and celebrated her 19th birthday at SeaWorld.
On behalf of Amber, KWN would like to thank all of Amber’s great wish sponsors: Fairfield Inn Anaheim Hotel, Casa Guadalajara, Compassion Partners Program, Benihana-Anaheim, P.F. Chang’s Corner Bakery Café, and SeaWorld.
