CASTLE ROCK, Colo. – International children’s charity Kids Wish Network sent Castle Rock girl Madison Collins, who is suffering from Marfan syndrome on an all expenses paid trip to fulfill her fondest wish of visiting California. Kids Wish Network is an international charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children having experienced life-altering situations.
“We are proud that we are able to create magical memories for these special children and their families every day,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Anna Lanzatella. “These wishes not only bring them joy and many memories, but also hope for a happier, healthier future.”
Now nine years old, Madison was born with a connective tissue disorder called Marfan syndrome, which has caused a variety of problems for her, including a dilated aorta, restricted lung capacity, scoliosis, and a detached retina. Madison will need to have her aorta surgically replaced and is currently on the waiting list. She also receives daily nebulizer treatments and must eat 13 meals daily because of her condition. Madison has endured six different eye surgeries so far, and will have surgery on her spine later this year.
While searching online for a charity that might grant a wish for her daughter, Madison’s mother stumbled upon the website for Kids Wish Network. When asked by a Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator what she wanted for that wish, Madison said that she wanted to visit California with her family.
“She loves Colorado, but she’s never been to the ocean,” said Madison’s mother, Tara McGuire. “And it was a wonderful time for all of us.”
From the moment she arrived to the moment it was time to head back home, Madison was enthralled with her California wish. Her first visit to the beach was made special with the sighting of two dolphins playing in the distance, her room at the Montage Resort and Spa was decorated with a welcome sign and gifts for Madison and her sisters, and she was treated like a queen at dinner every evening. Also included in her wish trip was a day at Disneyland, a whale watching cruise, and a surfing lesson.
“Maddie’s smile was a mile wide the entire time,” said Tara. “We didn’t have to worry about having to go to the doctor or surgery. It was just awesome and it was definitely something that she [Madison] needed. It was a great time to just be a family together. We’ll never forget it.”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for making Madison’s all expenses paid trip and wish so spectacular: American Eagle Car Rental, Montage Resort and Spa, Disneyland, PF Chang’s China Bistro, Huntington Beach Surf Lessons, Ruby’s Diner Laguna Beach, Wind & Sea Restaurant, and Dana Wharf Sport Fishing & Whale Watching.
