Wish to Visit San Diego Zoo Granted to Galt Boy with Nephrotic Syndrome

GALT, Calif. – A 6-year-old boy with a life-threatening illness has his wish to visit the San Diego Zoo granted by national children’s charity Kids Wish Network and generous sponsors.

In December of last year, Anthony began suffering what his parents thought were allergic reactions; his legs began to swell and he was taken to the hospital. There, he began experiencing seizures and was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome. This condition is caused by damaged kidneys leaking large amounts of protein into the body.

Doctors also discovered that Anthony was suffering from a swelling of the brain’s protective membranes called meningitis. This condition also causes severe headaches and earaches for Anthony.

An employee at the hospital where Anthony was being treated mentioned that international children’s charity Kids Wish Network may be able to grant a wish for the little boy; they suggested that Anthony’s father, Carlos, send in an application to have a wish granted for Anthony.

It wasn’t long before Anthony was talking to a Kids Wish Network wish coordinator about his wish to meet lots of animals at the San Diego Zoo. Soon, Anthony and his family were on their way to San Diego.

“It was a great experience for the whole family,” said Carlos of his son’s wish trip. “Anthony loved everything, especially the giraffes.”

They spent two days at the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park with multiple visits to the giraffes for Anthony, as well as an extra day at Sea World, which was a complete surprise for the family.

In addition to the zoo visits and the trip to Sea World, Kids Wish Network also arranged for top-notch accommodations at the San Diego Marriott – Gaslamp Quarter, a rental car from MidWay Car Rental and even special dinners at The Hard Rock Café, Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza and the Elephant Bar.

“Everything was just phenomenal,” said Carlos. “It was a too-good-to-be-true vacation and Anthony had a blast. It was a great experience for all of us. Thank you.”

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Anthony’s wish extra special: San Diego Marriott- Gaslamp Quarter; The San Diego Zoo, Sea World; San Diego Safari Park; MidWay Car Rental; The Hard Rock Café; Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza; and the Elephant Bar.
