Kurtis was diagnosed with having Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is a cancer of the lymph tissue, in August of 2009. He endured 8 months of chemotherapy followed by 15 weeks of radiation therapy, which ended just in time for his graduation ceremony. In August of 2010, the cancer returned and Kurtis was given a higher dose of chemotherapy and given stem cell treatments. A biopsy was performed on his lung and he was scheduled to have a bone marrow transplant, which was just completed.
For his wish, Kurtis wanted to visit Orlando, Florida – something he’s wanted to do since he was 8 years old. He and his family visited Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, where Kurtis said his favorite experience was the Jurassic Park River Adventure ride.
Of his wish-come-true, Kurtis says, “This was perfect. Just being there was my favorite part. It was so nice to just get away – nice not to worry. It was awesome.”
