Facility: Children’s Hospital at Scott and White
In August, Augustus was struck by an 18-wheeler while riding an ATV. He suffered from a traumatic brain injury as well as a collar bone fracture and multiple other injuries. At the time, the outcome of Augustus’ situation was unknown. After being treated at our facility for a little over a month, he was then transferred to another facility for three months of inpatient rehab. When he left Scott & White, Augustus was unable to walk, talk, eat or do much of anything on his own. After three months of daily rehab, Augustus returned home and WALKED through the door of his home on his own!
Throughout his entire journey, his family has stood by his side and encourages his recovery daily. They kept a positive attitude that I believe transferred over to Augustus and gave him the freedom to soar in his recovery. Augustus is now going to school for half-a-day and will continue to do physical therapy in an outpatient setting. He has worked so hard and is continuing to work towards a full recovery. He is truly one of the bravest, strongest, most determined heroes I have ever known.
