Kids Wish Network grants wish to teen with cancer

Lacrosse isn’t a sport that most 18-year-old girls are interested in. But Maygen is not your average girl.

After falling ill with the Swine Flu and strep throat, Maygen attributed her constant and extreme exhaustion to her recent battles with the illnesses. But when lumps were discovered on her neck, it was determined that her lethargy was caused by something more serious: hodgkins lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes.

Doctors immediately ordered chemotherapy for Maygen, who endured eight rounds of the intense treatment and surgical procedures were done which removed several lumps.

Shortly after her diagnosis, Maygen’s mother received a phone call from a professional fundraiser for Kids Wish Network.

“They [the fundraiser] asked her, ‘do you know of any children who may be eligible for a wish?’ and my mom said, ‘yes. My daughter,’” Maygen said.

It didn’t take long for Maygen to figure out what she would choose for her wish. She chose to have season tickets to the Colorado Mammoth lacrosse games.

“We scheduled my chemo around the Mammoth games. They meant everything to me. In two years I have only missed one game,” Maygen said. “It was inspirational [during chemotherapy treatments] because I knew I needed to be feeling better so I could go to the games.”

After filling out an application and expressing her wish for season tickets, Maygen was soon on her way to the Pepsi Center in an Escalade limo.

“I always asked for Mammoth tickets for Christmas and my birthday but I never got them,” she said. “For my wish I got fourth row tickets right behind the goal. I can almost touch the glass.”

Aside from attending all the games this season, Maygen will be returning to the Pepsi Center for the “Black out Cancer Night” where the facility and team is planning something special in her honor.

According to Maygen, she is thrilled that her wish came true and she wouldn’t have changed a thing. And with season tickets, her wish is a wish that keeps on giving.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for making Maygen’s wish such a special experience:

Kroenke Sports Enterprises-Pepsi Center, Braun’s Bar and Grill, Preferred Limousine Service and the Mammoth Team Members
