Brooke is a four year old girl who was admitted to the hospital with a chronic condition known as Chiari Malformation. It’s a complex disorder characterized by herniation of the cerebellum through the base of the skull into the spinal canal. Brooke spent several days at the hospital on a path to recovery from an extensive surgery. She conquered much of her pain through different distractions and looking forward to coloring a new Disney Princess each day. Although Brooke had a lot of discomfort, she always looked forward to the visits from her brothers that Child Life set up in the playroom each day. We feel that Brooke is our Hero of the Month due to her persistence to keep motivated during her admission to the hospital and her recovery process.
