Sarah is a very kind-hearted 7-year-old who was out riding on her favorite horse when the horse tripped and fell forward. Unfortunately, as the animal fell, Sarah also got thrown forward onto the ground. Sarah arrived at Kadlec by ambulance as a trauma in the emergency department. Once she arrived at the hospital, it was found that Sarah had a laceration to her spleen. Because of this, she had to lay back for the first 24 hours at Kadlec, as well as endure many pokes for IV’s and constant blood draws.
The anxiety alone from the trauma combined with all the procedures she had to encounter for her treatment was a lot for a young girl to experience. Despite everything, Sarah remained a very brave and strong girl. She was always sweet, compliant and thankful to all the staff that worked with her. Her kind heart also shined through when she expressed her worry for her horse and not for herself. Some of the staff that worked with Sarah stated, “She always kept a smile on her face despite being here so long” and “she was very brave during a very scary night”. Kadlec Regional Medical Center is very proud to recognize Sarah for all of her heroic qualities by honoring her as their “Hero of the Month”!
