Kids Wish Network sends Littleton teen on Cruise

LITTLETON, Colo. – When Cody said he wanted to go someplace warm, he had no idea that he would be going to the Bahamas on a cruise.

But thanks to national charity Kids Wish Network, that is exactly where he went.

Cody battles from a life-threatening condition called osteogenesis imperfecta – also known as brittle bone disease. The illness causes Cody to break his bones very easily, which has led to many surgical procedures and intense pain. On top of this, he also suffers from fibromyalgia and scoliosis. There are many days in which Cody is not able to get out of bed due to his intense pain. His illnesses have affected him so much that he has missed out on many activities that most 14-year-old boys take part in, like playing sports and even attending school.

When Cody’s mom, Deborah, was contacted by a professional fundraiser seeking donations on behalf of Kids Wish Network, she had no idea that the organization would end up granting a wish for her son. After filling out an application and being approved for a wish, Cody had to decide what he wanted to do for his one and only wish.

“I wanted to go somewhere warm, and swim in the ocean and do something with my family that we will never get to do again,” Cody said.

And that is just what he did.

Kids Wish Network arranged for Cody and his family to go on a Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas. Round trip flights, spending money, passage aboard the luxurious Carnival Imagination and excursions were included in his wish.

“You guys were phenomenal and went above and beyond,” said Deborah of Kids Wish Network. “Everyone bent over backwards and treated Cody and our family like royalty. It was worth every moment.”

According to Deborah, Cody was in rare form while on his wish trip.

“‘He said, I really want to go somewhere warm,’ because warm makes him feel better. That day at the Bahamas he didn’t want to get out of the ocean. It made him feel so good and I haven’t seen him smile like that in such a long time. We don’t see that much because he lives with so much pain,” she said. “It was so much fun and so relaxing for him.”

While on his wish trip, Cody and his family go to swim with the dolphins and spend time at the Atlantis resort. Deborah said it was a fun experience for the whole family.

“Swimming with the dolphins was a blast and we all had a really good time. The dolphin pushed us on a boogie board by our feet. We got to do a few little trick things with them and take pictures with them,” she said.

While the best part of the trip for Deborah was seeing the smile on her son’s face, Cody enjoyed the experience at the Bahamas the most.

“Kids Wish Network is awesome. My favorite part was the Bahamas and the fun I had in the ocean.”

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Cody’s wish extra special: Carnival Cruise Lines, Intercontinental Hotel Miami, Worldwide Limousines, A Family Limousine, Hard Rock Café Miami
