In April of 2000, Nathan was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition known as Shone’s Syndrome. This is a condition that affects the heart and causes several severe defects including obstructing the flow of blood to his heart. Nathan has had various heart surgeries in his 10 years, including an aortic valve replacement. His very first open heart surgery was done when Nathan was just 3-days-old. Recently, an external pacemaker was used to help regulate his heart, but after two scares of the battery dying and his heart stopping, an internal pacemaker has been implanted and is finally functioning properly. He still must be monitored and has to do activities that will not easily exert him.
For his wish, Nathan had a great time in Orlando, Florida, visiting all of the theme parks that he wanted to! While there, Nathan and his family found time to visit SeaWorld, the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and EPCOT Center. For Nathan, the most exciting things to experience were the rides and the awesome parades, especially the Spaceship Earth ride at EPCOT and the SpectroMagic Parade at the Magic Kingdom.
