Aaliyah is a typical 4 year old who loves games, crafts, movies and hanging out with family and friends. She is a very active preschooler. Aaliyah had had an extended hospitalization and readmissions due to complications from a ruptured appendix. Her initial stay and diagnosis was flu like symptoms, abdominal pain and suspected appendicitis. She has had multiple tests and procedures and surgery. She just went home after a week long stay with us, only to have to return due to complications. This extended hospitalization has caused huge changes in her lifestyle; she is missing school and general habits that a normal preschooler would experience. Through it all, she has kept her head up and tried to remain positive but has been somewhat discouraged during this experience with the many setbacks and complications she has faced during her recovery. Her family and friends have helped out with lots of support but by being far away from them makes things more difficult for her! Aaliyah has had the tough experiences of a prolonged hospitalization, lots on long days of treatments, therapy sessions and distance from family and friends. She deserves a big cheer up and I believe she is very deserving of this award!
