FELICITY, Ohio – Like many 13-year-old boys, Bradly likes sports: especially baseball. But unlike most 13-year-old boys, Bradly can’t play the sport. Rather, he watches games on TV and plays baseball games on his XBOX 360.
Bradly was born with a life-threatening condition known as Tuberous Sclerosis. This condition causes tumors to grow in various parts of the body. For Bradly, the tumors are present in his heart. Because of the location of the tumors, removing them is not an option. He has episodes where his heart races, causing him to collapse to the ground. Bradly spends a lot of time in the hospital and currently has a pace maker to help regulate his heartbeat.
While at home one evening, Bradly’s grandmother, Christine, received a call from a professional fundraiser seeking donations on behalf of national charity Kids Wish Network. After talking with the caller, it came to Christine’s attention that she should refer her grandson.
“They called here one day and I told them about Bradly. They recommended that I refer him,” Christine said.
After filling out the application from Kids Wish Network and being approved for the wish, Bradly was soon speaking to his wish coordinator, Carrie. Through the conversation, Carrie confirmed that Bradly wanted to go on a shopping spree for his wish.
“He told me he wanted to go on a shopping spree and he made a list of stores he wanted to shop at,” Carrie said. “I was excited about trying to get as many of the stores to help as I could and the stores really went above and beyond.”
Carrie got to work setting up arrangements at the Eastgate Mall in Cincinnati where they provided Bradly with a personal shopper and also coordinated a limousine from J & B Limo to take Bradly to and from the mall. Between the people at the mall and the Georgetown Lions Club, Bradly was given an experience he won’t soon forget.
“It was the best day of his life,” Christine said. “They had a little room in the mall with his name on the door and outfits to try on. He is a Cubs fan and they had it decorated in Cubs stuff. Everybody treated him so good. He loved it.”
Bradly spent the day shopping and picking out new clothes, shoes, cologne and an iPod touch. Although he loves all the new stuff he got, Christine said the best part of the day for him was the limo ride .
“When the limo pulled up he was so tickled. He was really, really pleased,” she said. “Kids Wish Network does the greatest thing in the world. You’re like angels.”
