State: Paterson, NJ
Facility: St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital
We first met Salsabeel when she was first diagnosed with diabetes. This was a very difficult diagnosis for her entire family. Both of her parents were extremely emotional during the entire hospitalization which made it very difficult for Salsabeel to understand what was happening to her. Through it all, she was very brave. Salsabeel remained calm during her accucheck and insulin shots, even when her parents weren’t around. She asked questions about her illness and was eager to learn how to do things herself. Back at home Salsabeel’s mother has stated her attitude helps give her strength each day and she is doing well.
