Juan was born prematurely and suffered a Grade IV IVH bleed resulting in the need for a VP shunt to be placed. In March, his shunt became infected and he was hospitalized for almost 2 weeks with bilateral external ventricular drains. He was discharged only to return 10 days later with another shunt infection. During both of these admissions, Juan has cooperated with the nursing staff during IV insertions and other medical procedures. He has been separated from his twin brother and other siblings as his family lives some distance away. While hospitalized he has asked for school work and has been eager to complete the assignments provided for him. Juan has needed to stay in his room in the PICU due to the external drains but his attitude is still an inspiration to everyone that has worked with him!
