Joshua stayed at Cardon Children’s for about 10 days. He was here to have surgery for his appendix and had to have an NG tube and catheter placed. He also received a PICC line. Child Life worked with Josh doing preparation and distraction. He was shy at first but his friendly, funny personality shined through after he got to know us. He ended up having an abscess behind his bladder and was suppose to have surgery again for a rectal drain. He was really nervous and was “running away” from the nurses when we found him running around the unit one day. Josh and his mom had to go through a lot but were always very nice and friendly. Child Life continued to work with Josh setting goals to walk and helped prepare him for surgery and his PICC line dressing changes. He was always determined to get his prizes.
