State: Boston, MA
Facility: Franciscan Hospital for Children
Salma has been in the hospital since September and has made tremendous progress since her arrival. She was initially very cautious and even resistant to her new environment because of the lack of vision and physical immobility. She was clearly fearful of the unfamiliar caregivers and surroundings, and sought out all things familiar and comfortable. As she has become more comfortable at FHFC, Salma has been able to engage and interact with her caregivers and participate in a variety of social activities on her unit. Her ability to adapt to such an unfamiliar environment is admirable, and she has become and enjoyable part of the group unit.
