Nikki is a 10 year old girl who was admitted for almost three weeks with osteomylitis, an infection in the bone of her foot. As part of her treatment, Nikki underwent two separate surgeries – one to drain the area and another to scrape the bone to prevent infection from affecting/ damaging the bone or bone tissue further. Despite this, Nikki has remained a happy, outgoing, and appreciative patient. She is always eager to participate in floor activities such as BINGO as well as two recent pediatric celebrations. Unfortunately, with the exception of 1 day, she has been restricted to her room due to an isolation status. Nikki still does not let this get her down and instead takes advantage of the opportunity to visit with her friends and family or assist a volunteer. Even after she gets home, Nikki’s journey to wellness will continue as she struggles to use a walker while using public transportation and maneuvering through the family’s home.
