This tall, handsome and athletic 17 year old was admitted to t he PICU over a month ago with severe muscle weakness and inability to ambulate. After testing, he was diagnosed with a particularly severe case of Guillian-Barre Syndrome. He remained in our PICU for 2 weeks. For a significant portion of that time, he was on a respirator, he was unable to speak except for a whisper and unable to swallow due to the ravages of his illness.
While Naquan’s body was incapacitated, his spirit never was. Each day of his slow and sometimes grueling recovery process, Naquan was determined to make the best of his situation and do whatever it took to achieve recovery. He has withstood the speech and physical therapy sessions bravely and retained his wonderful sense of humor. He was a true Hero through it all!
