Lorena is a non-ambulatory 15-year old who was born with Cerebral Palsy. She has daily seizures and had a Baclofen pump surgically implanted to help with her spasticity. Lorena recently underwent a spinal fusion with wound care problems and as a result, was hospitalized for 3 months. During that time, the hospital initiated a strict visitor policy due to the H1N1 virus; no one under the age of 18 was permitted to see her. Lorena, who is very close to her siblings, was not able to see her sisters during that time. Although Lorena is non-verbal, she was very aware of the situation and always had a smile to give to everyone – staff, patients and other families.
