For an entire month, Hailey had flu-like symptoms for an entire month and was eventually hospitalized for dehydration. Unaccustomed to strangers constantly monitoring her vitals, Hailey withstood prodding and poking on a daily basis. Finally, doctors diagnosed appendicitis and by the time surgery was scheduled, her appendices had ruptured. She struggled to regain her healthy, active self for two weeks after surgery. Hailey was finally able to go home only to be forced to return shortly thereafter because of infection and ongoing dehydration and the inability to keep solid food down. Her family rallied around her and celebrated the holidays at her bedside in the hospital. While admitted, she stole the hearts of all her caregivers – she was a real fighter and a brave patient. Although she continues to be monitored on a regular basis by a medical team, Hailey is now getting back to being her active, smiling self, playing – and arguing! – with her siblings… something Mom and Dad are happy to witness!
