Grant was admitted this month after being hit by a truck while he was waiting for his bus. He remembers the accident well. He said he remembers hearing someone yell “slow down, slow down!” and then being hit and lying on the ground. He also remembered the ambulance ride well.
While Grant was hospitalized, he spent a couple of days in our Step Down Unit in the PICU and some time on the general pediatric floor. He suffered from multiple fractures of both of his legs, his left ankle and tibia and his right femur and his right tibia. In the process he had many trips to radiology. A teddy bear Child Life gave him was always along for the adventure. He also had skin grafting done due to larger lacerations on both legs. He also had wound vacs and bilateral external fixators. Grant went through a lot for a six year old and truly deserves this award.
