Betsy has an amazing ability to cope with a difficult diagnosis and medical challenges. She has a chronic disease called intestinal lymphangiectasia and she has been hospitalized multiple times over the last few months for a total of 33 days since October, including several ICU admissions. When Betsy is not in the hospital she is constantly at the doctor’s office as she sees multiple different specialists. Through all of this Betsy remains in great spirits, is always cheerful and pleasant to be around. She has a fantastic outlook on everything and finds incredible ways to cope. Not only does Betsy deal with her own illness well but she is constantly working to help others. Recently she made a proposal to her Girl Scout troop about using their philanthropy money to do a project for the Children’s Hospital where she has spent so much time. Betsy believes that giving back is very important and she lives that out in her life. Her attitude is inspiring and she is truly a hero around here.
