Adam and his family have been clients at HOPE since November 2009. The most recent domestic violence incident occurred when Adam’s mother was badly beaten and her life threatened by her boyfriend. She then fled to another country with her two young children – 10-year-old Angelico and his 7-year-old sister. They did not feel safe there either, and entered the domestic family shelter for safety. Adam often expresses how he feels and communicates those feelings through drawings. He loves to draw and inspires to be an artist someday. In spite of the hurdles that have happened in his life, and coping with what his mother has experienced, he continues to be an inspiration to all the staff and other children at the shelter. As the oldest child at HOPE (right now), he is seen as a “big brother” to the younger children, including his little sister! Angelico is extremely talented and gifted and has taught us all that life’s obstacles can be overcome with the right attitude.
